About Arabic

Arabic is one of the world’s major languages, with over 300 million people in 22 countries using it as their mother tongue, including Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. While there are various dialects of Arabic, Modern Standard Arabic (known as MSA) is used in formal speaking situations, like lectures and news broadcasts, and in all formal writing such as correspondence, literature and newspapers. At Languages in Motion, we respect every form of the Arabic language and will preserve it with our commitment to certified-level interpreter and Arabic translation services.

History of the Language

Arabic has been used for over 1000 years, making it an ancient and globally recognized language. It is a Semitic language, meaning it shares similarities with other languages such as Aramaic and Hebrew. As such, there are many varieties of Arabic dialects in existence. Regardless of the region or country, Arabic is considered the language of Allah (God) and Muhammad, stemming from the Holy Qur’an, the Muslim equivalent of the Bible. The book preserves Arabic in its purest form, and therefore, is considered highly respected across the Muslim world.

MSA is the most spoken and well-known version of the Arabic language in the world. It is based on Classical Arabic, the language of the Qur’an and early Islamic literature, and is quite uniform throughout the Arab world. The language is used in university, technology, literature, and particularly in legal and business associations. Our corporate translators can help you when it comes to any business or legal matters.

As Arabic is spoken across the Middle East, Africa and even some parts of Asia, it’s not a shock to estimate that there are over 25 different dialects. With our certified translators, we can help you cross borders and communicate in multiple Arabic dialects.

Many experts believe that there are modern variants of the language, divided into five major groups: Egyptian (which is primarily spoken in Egypt), Peninsular (which is the dialect of the Arabian peninsula, such as Qatar and the UAE), Mesopotamian (Parts of Syria, Turkey, Iran, Kuwait and Jordan), Maghrebi (from Western Africa, such as Tunisia and Morocco) and Levantine (which can be found in Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, Turkey and Egypt). We can help you communicate with these dialects with our list of Arabic translation experts.
